Network membership discussion
How to ensure applicants and members comply with our values?
About this assembly
Welcome to this deliberative space. It is designed to support our collective conversation and decision-making on the inclusion of participants from Israel and occupied Palestinian territories in Nets4Dem project activities against the background of the ongoing war and breaches of human rights law in Gaza.
As a first phase leading up to our online meeting on 27 May, this space allows all members to share key questions, ideas, resources and viewpoints to ensure a structured and informed discussion. Key questions and issues already shared elsewhere have been included here as individual items to be reacted and added to.
As a basis of our discussion, we would like to remind you of the values of our network which have been agreed on as part of our narrative for Nets4Dem. We would like to encourage a deeper reflection on how these values can be a tool for us in finding a collective answer to the questions at hand and develop clear policies and processes for this and similar cases in the future.
Nets4Dem Values:
1) Democratic Principles and Human Rights:
Nets4Dem is firmly grounded in upholding democratic principles of inclusive participation, transparency, and accountability. We adhere to internationally recognised human rights frameworks such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, Convention on the Rights of the Child, and the 1951 Refugee Convention. Discrimination based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or any other protected characteristic is strictly prohibited within the network.
2) Civic Engagement and Inclusive Decision-Making:
We believe all people should have a voice in decisions that affect their lives. We promote meaningful civic engagement that empowers citizens to participate actively in democratic processes at all levels of governance. Inclusive, participatory decision-making reflecting diverse perspectives is central to our approach.
3) Knowledge Sharing and Collaboration:
Open exchange of knowledge, experiences and best practices fosters mutual learning and innovation. We facilitate collaboration across sectors, disciplines, and geographies to generate holistic insights and solutions for democratic renewal. Silos are counterproductive to our mission.
